Adrian Simpson, Director of Consumer Policy for HIES, met with Dr. Alan Whitehead MP for Southampton Test and the Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change in Westminster.
During the meeting, Adrian introduced the work of HIES and discussed how HIES had protected 90,000 consumers since our inception in 2015. Adrian then presented how we plan to protect even more consumers in other areas such as Electric vehicle charging points and battery storage.
The meeting went well and Adrian was able to talk Dr. Whitehead through some of our recent success such as involvement in the authoring and release of the Assignment of Rights model contract and some of our plans for the next year.
Adrian commented: “our aim is to reduce consumer detriment and raise business standards. We do this by ensuring that businesses that we accredit follow our stringent Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) approved Code of Practice. To help us achieve our aims it is important that key decision makers and stakeholders are aware of our work”.
As well as raising awareness with civil servants and politicians HIES also responds to important consultations which could concern consumers such as the future of small-scale renewables and the consumer green paper. HIES has also worked in Scotland with the Cross-Party Group on Consumer Protection.
