The Green Homes Grant continues to attract new and existing members to Trustmark membership through HIES. However, as with many quickly implemented and fast-moving initiatives, there has been confusion from installers and consumers around some aspects of the Green Homes Grant Scheme, particularly around quotes and surveys.
Many consumers believe that they must attain three quotes before applying for the scheme however this is NOT a requirement. The official recommendation by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is that the homeowner should try and get three quotes where possible so that they can get the best value for money. This may not be possible for all consumers and so the minimum requirement is one quote. However, the quote must be from an appropriately certified and TrustMark registered installer.
In regard to fees for quotations, BEIS does not expect installers to charge the consumer for providing a quotation for work. The decision whether to pay an installer a quotation fee rests with the consumer themselves.
Adrian Simpson, Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs at HIES, comments:
“The scheme was a welcome surprise to HIES; however, we have received many questions from installers around the scheme rules. We want to help installers through this process as much as possible and will continue to seek guidance from BEIS to help clarify the scheme rules.
It is fantastic to see the demand as homeowners look to make their homes greener and warmer through the scheme. Over the coming months, we will continue our close working relationship with BEIS and Trustmark to help all those interested in the Green Home Grants Scheme.”
