Government Expands Support by 1.5 Billion for Boiler Upgrade Scheme

On 18th December 2023, Government committed to a further £1.5 billion funding boost to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). This financial commitment further emphasises the Government’s dedication to help homeowners install low-carbon heating systems in their homes.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme had its inception in 2022, initially providing upfront grants of £5,000 for air source heat pumps or biomass boilers, and £6,000 for ground source heat pumps. These grants were then revised in October 2023, offering consumers an increased incentive of £7,500 for air source heat pumps or ground source heat pumps.

Faisal Hussain, HIES CEO, comments,

“The latest £1.5 billion funding injection is fantastic news for our industry. It will greatly help to amplify the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, helping more consumers install low carbon technologies as they replace their old boilers, as well as helping installers in the industry as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme continues to create additional work for installers. This financial commitment from the Government will help to drive homeowners to adopt energy-efficient heating solutions, contributing to the wider goal of a low-carbon future.”
