On 1st August 2015 HIES was officially recognised as an approved CTSI Consumer Code, the UK’s second official Code of Practice for the renewable energy sector.

In May this year HIES was subject to an onsite audit by a Chartered Trading Standards Practitioner from CTSI. A copy of the report can be downloaded from the CTSI website.

Throughout the report HIES has been praised for the way it conducts itself and highlights several areas of best practice. It states:
“HIES is a dynamic organisation that has made significant improvements to its systems within the last 12 months that have measurably improved consumer protection”.

On receiving the report Tony Allen, Director of Consumer Protection for the scheme commented “I am sure that you will all agree that this is a fantastic result for HIES. We are as committed as ever to ensuring that consumers have access to good quality, ethical and responsible installers. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff for their part in achieving this outstanding outcome.”

The report comments on several key areas of the consumer protection scheme:

New Members: “The applications team employ extensive and rigorous procedures and their considerable knowledge of the sector and its inhabitants for ensuring that businesses and directors known for rogue practices are excluded from membership of HIES”

Non-Compliant Member Businesses: “Where any instances of non compliance with the code are identified HIES takes the approach of education first to try to assist the Member Company to achieve compliance. Where a Member Company is resistant to such assistance then the non-compliance triggers an investigation”

The Audit Report concludes:

"HIES is fulfilling its obligations as a code sponsor and its member base is compliant with the Consumer Codes Approval Scheme core criteria and the HIES Code of Practice”
