of Rights

payment protection insurance

To help householders and organisations access finance to overcome the barrier of the upfront cost of a renewable heating system, the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) introduced an ‘Assignment of Rights’ option under the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (Domestic RHI). Essentially this allowed an eligible investor (who had successfully registered as an investor with Ofgem), to help fund the purchase, installation and maintenance of a households or organisation’s renewable heating system. The Domestic RHI scheme closed to new applications on 31 March 2022.

Guidance for investors

Although the Domestic RHI scheme is now closed, it is still possible for investors to apply to take over existing Assignment of Rights contracts with participants, from investors who may wish to exist their agreements, up until midnight at the end of 30 June 2028. To provide a high level of protection for consumers, BEIS and Ofgem have decided that an investor must be a member of a recognised Consumer Code. HIES is a Chartered Trading Standards Institute approved Consumer Code. Find out more about HIES here.
